Fire Destroys 5,000-Square-Foot Andover Home, Damage Estimated at $2.7M

One firefighter was injured battling the blaze

A 2-alarm fire ripped through a home in Andover, Massachusetts overnight, destroying the building and causing an estimated $2.7 million in damage.

Two people inside the house at the time of the fire were able to escape the flames safely, according to Andover fire officials.

"They were alerted of the fire by seeing sparks and something going on with the electrical system," Andover Police Chief Michael Mansfield said.

The blaze was reported around 10:30 p.m.. Monday at the 2-1/2-story home on 8 Brundrett Ave., according to the state fire marshal. The 5,000-square-foot home was deemed a total loss.

One firefighter was injured battling the blaze. No other injuries were reported.

Neighbor Richard Robidoux helped guide firefighters to the blaze.

"The house is tucked behind other houses, so it’s hard to know where the driveway actually was," he said.

Robidoux said there was a barn on the property before there was ever a home. That barn burned to the ground, he said.

Aerial footage from NBC10 Boston’s Sky Ranger helicopter captured several units responding to the fire. Extensive damage could be seen on the roof of the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
