Thousands of people are in attendance Friday for fallen Sgt. Michael Chesna of the Weymouth Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty.
The Weymouth community mourned the death for the past week and offered their condolences to the slain sergeant's family. Many donated to his family during their time of need with a GoFundMe account while others held community events to raise funds.
The town was decorated with American flags and black and blue ribbons in honor of Chesna's memory. Various prominent structures in Boston displayed blue lights in solidarity with Chesna.
Chesna was killed on July 15 after responding to a call of an erratic driver and crashed car. A man allegedly threw a large rock at his head then shot him with his own gun.
He is survived by his wife, 4-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.
