First responders and mourners gathered for a procession for Worcester, Massachusetts firefighter Christopher Roy on Monday a day after he was killed in the line of duty.
The 36-year-old firefighter died Sunday after he responded to a 5-alarm blaze at an apartment building on Lowell Street. He was trapped in the structure along with four other firefighters on the second floor. After escaping the blaze via ladder, Roy was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A motorcade led Roy's procession from UMass Medical Center in Worcester to the Massachusetts Medical Examiner's Office in Boston.
Roy, a 2-year veteran of the Worcester Fire Department, is survived by his 9-year-old daughter and other family members.
