Boston Business Journal Report: Falling Short on Affordable Housing

BBJ real estate editor Thomas Grillo has more on how many Bay State towns fail housing mandates

The Community Preservation Act is designed to help those searching for affordable housing in Massachusetts; however, the Boston Business Journal is reporting many Massachusetts towns are failing at the housing mandate.

BBJ real estate editor Thomas Grillo said the act allows voters to decide if they want 1-3 percent surtax on their property tax bill. In turn, the CPA money goes to supporting new housing projects.

"We counted 50 communities that spent less than 10 percent. The mandate calls for 10 percent and it's been very frustrating for housing advocates, who as you know, want to get housing built in this state," he said.
