Employees, Customers React to Market Basket Statement

Workers and customers we spoke with are frustrated with the back and forth battle

There's a call for action in the Market Basket drama, and it comes from the independent directors on the grocery chain's board.

In a statement released Monday night they say, “It is time to get everyone back to work. We must end this zero-sum game and act in the best interest of our associates, customers- and in the end, our company. We are ready to meet. It's time.”

While ousted CEO Arthur T. Demoulas, has not responded to that statement yet, workers and customers we spoke with are frustrated with the back and forth battle.

Full-time clerk Michael Massa said, “At some point you got to just say enough is enough. You’re talking about over 20,000 people and thousands of customers’ lives.”

Customer Matt Collette said, “So if that’s all they want is money, then give him back control, make people happy, take your money and run.”

“If Artie T. doesn’t come back, Market Basket isn’t going to be the same,“ said Gerri Yok, who is out of work because of the dispute.

Some experts believe the market dispute will eventually end up in a courtroom, all of it linked to a family feud between two cousins, Arthur S. and Arthur T. Demoulas.
