New Market Basket Opens

The store in Revere, Massachusetts, was built but remained closed through the drama that followed the firing of CEO Arthur T. Demoulas over the summer.

Doors to a brand new Market Basket in Revere, Massachusetts, opened at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Many questioned if this long-awaited store would ever open. Shelves in many stores went unstocked and employees went on strike this summer after Arthur T. Demoulas was removed as Market Basket's CEO by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.

"I can't tell you how excited I am, because every week, it was the topic of discussion with me and my friends," said Patricia Marciello.

The very public, contentious battle ended in august when Arthur T. reached a deal to purchase half the company from Arthur S. Sunday's Revere opening is the first new store to open since.

Outside, Arthur T. was met with wild appreciation.

"It was a very unusual summer, to say the least," said Arthur T. Demoulas. "It's just nice that all the hard working associates ... stood up for good, old-world values, of loyalty and dedication. And what's even more special is that the customers backed them up."

Manager Ron Lambert has worked for Market Basket for 40 years. He says the Revere community was in need of Market Basket store, and the 450 jobs it brought.

It was hectic on Sunday, and for many customers, they wouldn't have it any other way.
