Safesale Programs Opening Around New England

Police departments around New England are opening their doors to people who want to safely make transactions in the wake of several crimes during Craigslist purchases.

After a couple of crimes across the country tied to in-person Craigslist transactions, the police chief in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, has created the Safesale program to offer people a safe meeting place.

Craigslist's personal safety page urges people to meet in a public place and not to invite strangers into their homes. In addition, they suggest making high-value exchanges at your local police station.

Chief Spinney says his lobby and parking lot, which are under video surveillance, are available. For added safety, you can check in with the dispatcher when you arrive.

Police departments in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut have also recently announced Safesale or Safe Zone programs like this one. If you aren't sure about your local police department, give them a call.
