Marty Walsh joined NECN to talk about his first year as mayor of Boston.

What has surprised him the most about the job?

"Probably the amount of issues that a mayor has to deal with through the course of a day," Mayor Walsh began. Mayor Walsh says his three major priorities include job development, public safety, and education and he has to make quick decisions in all of these areas.

In addition, Mayor Walsh said he thinks Massachusetts Governor-elect Charlie Baker will help Boston thrive. The two will work together on economic development issues, like infrastructure and transportation.

"We've had several conversations since he's been elected about the growth," Mayor Walsh said. "For Charlie Baker, the growth of Boston is just as important as it is for me, because when Boston grows, the rest of the state does in a lot of ways. He needs to have a strong, central capital city doing very well and he understands that."

Mayor Walsh also discussed the single most important decision he says he is going to make.
