Patient Monitored for Possible Ebola Released

A person who had worked in Liberia was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be checked for the virus, but was determined to have malaria.

A patient who was checked for a possible case of Ebola has been released from Massachusetts General Hospital.

The patient, who had worked in Liberia, was cleared of Ebola, but diagnosed with malaria. Hospital officials say the treatment of that illness has gone well.

Massachusetts General Hospital explained Wednesday that it had worked "in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, and out of an abundance of caution."

"The patient presents no risk to family, friends, colleagues or the public," the hospital said in a statement Friday. "This situation has given us the opportunity to see firsthand the benefits of the extensive preparations that have been underway throughout the hospital for the past several months."
