1 Conn. National Guard Soldier Killed, 1 Injured in Crash

One Connecticut National Guard soldier was killed and another injured when a military vehicle transporting spent shells from a training exercise to Fort Dix, New Jersey was involved in a crash on Interstate 95 south in New York

One Connecticut National Guard soldier was killed and another injured when a military vehicle transporting spent shells from a training exercise to Fort Dix, New Jersey was involved in a crash on Interstate 95 south in New York at 10:22 a.m. on Thursday.

The military vehicle, a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle, flipped over and both the driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle, NBC New York reports. The passenger was killed and the driver taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The National Guard is notifying the soldiers' families and has not released their names.

The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital, but the extent of that person's injuries wasn't immediately nown. There was only one person in the second car.

The National Guard is offering support services to both families involved as well as other members of the military who need assistance.

The crash remains under investigation.
