12-Year-Old Girl Hit by DPW Truck in Hyannis

A 12-year-old girl was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital after being hit by a truck Thursday morning in the village of Hyannis in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

The girl suffered injuries to her lower extremities, the Hyannis Fire Department said, after she was hit near West Main Street and Lincoln Road shortly after 8 a.m. She is expected to survive, police said.

The girl is a student at the Barnstable Intermediate School, police said.

The driver of the truck did stop. The vehicle involved was a Town of Barnstable public works truck driven by a town employee, police said.

Barnstable and Hyannis police and fire officials were still at the scene of the crash around 10 a.m. Thursday.
