18-Month-Old Girl Rescued From Hot Car

The child was found in Marshfield, Mass. Her father, Robert Neil, will face reckless endangerment charges

(NECN: Jeff Saperstone) - An investigation is underway after a man had to use a hammer to break into a car in Marshfield, Massachusetts, to rescue a toddler trapped inside.

The incident happened this past Sunday on Foster Avenue, where temperatures were around 80 degrees and humidity was high.

Police say an 18-month-old girl was found inside a hot car with all the windows rolled up and no air conditioner.

Marshfield Police say a witness spotted the child crying inside the car and smashed the window with a hammer. The child was gasping for air.

The toddler's father, who police confirm is 42-year-old Robert Neil, will face reckless endangerment charges. He had been dropping his other child off at a birthday party.

The child is alright and police say quick thinking neighbors helped to save her.
