Around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, a nine alarm fire began in a building at 159 Allston Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Cambridge Fire Department confirms there are no reported injuries, but the Red Cross says over 30 are displaced.
. The 3-story building is currently unoccupied and under renovation. Two additional buildings were also damaged due to radiant heat and the spread of flames. Everyone who lived in those buildings escaped in time.
"It's a closely built neighborhood. They're wood framed dwellings. They're basically one on top of one another. You know, it's an old neighborhood. It's an old city and these things happen particularly when you have a heavy volume of fire on the outside of a building," Assistant Cambridge Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney explained.
Fire companies from surrounding communities assisted on scene. The Red Cross is assisting with emergency needs for those who have been displaced.
