Accused ‘Craigslist Killer' Commits Suicide

(NECN) - The Suffolk County Sheriff is reporting that accused "Craigslist Killer" Philip Markoff is dead.

He committed suicide at the Nashua Street Jail in Boston on Sunday morning.

Ed Geary, a spokesman for the Suffolk County sheriff's office, says Philip Markoff was declared dead by emergency medical workers at about 10:15 Sunday morning.

Markoff's trial was expected to take place in March.

Markoff, a former Boston University student, pleaded not guilty in the April 2009 fatal shooting of Julissa Brisman, of New York City, and the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman, both at Boston hotels.

The Boston Herald is reporting that the former Boston University student would have celebrated the one-year anniversary of his marriage to ex-fiancee Megan McAllister on Saturday, had he not been arrested in April 2009.

Parts of this report came from the Associated Press.
