Arson Charges Against 8 Teens in Springfield, Mass.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Eight Springfield teens have been arrested in connection with two overnight fires and police suspect they may also be responsible for other recent arson fires in the city's Forest Park neighborhood.

Capt. Cheryl Clapprood says the teens, ranging in age from 15 to 17, face charges of arson of a dwelling and breaking and entering for a fire.

Investigators believe a fire that started late Tuesday night in a vacant home on Martin St. may have started after two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the home.

Police allege the group also tried to set a fire outside the Springfield Lodge of Elks on Tiffany Street.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Clapprood says the teens could face additional charges as the investigation continues into a string of arson fires in the neighborhood.
