Boston Man Arrested for Murder

(NECN: John Moroney, Boston) - Twenty-seven-year-old Eldrick Broom is now in custody, charged with sexually assaulting and killing a mother of three, after allegedly breaking into the woman's apartment last month.

Thirty-four-year-old Rosanna Camilo of the Dominican Republic was murdered by strangulation. She was living in Boston to get medical care for one of her children. Prosecutors say the suspect knews the Camilos, having lived across the hall form her before moving to another building in the Boston housing complex.

Broom was arrested last night after his DNA matched a sample found at the scene of the crime. The DA's office said the defendant voluntarily gave authorities a DNA swab.

Prosecutors say Broom killed Camilo while her 17-month-old son was in the next room. Her body was found later that afternoon by the victim's 16-year-old daughter. Camilo's immediate family was not in court. they are believed to have returned to the Dominican Republic, where they are well-known.

Broom is being held without bail and is expected back in court Jan. 31 for a probable cause hearing.
