Car Break-in Suspect Arrested After Calling Mother for Help

(NECN) – Police have arrested a car break-in suspect in Springfield, Mass. after he allegedly tried to call his mother for help when police were looking for him.

Police got a call Tuesday night that a white male, about 30 years old, wearing a baseball hat, jeans and a dark windbreaker, was observed attempting to break into cars on Chalmers Street and Sumner Avenue.

Officers dispatched to the area found a black Subaru circling the area. The elderly female driver appeared to be looking for somebody. The officers questioned her and she stated that her son called her while she was home to pick him up on Powell Avenue. The officers let her go and kept the car under surveillance.

The officers observed a male matching the description attempting to get in the woman's car. When the suspect was being followed he called his elderly mother in Agawam to pick him up and save him. Two witnesses positively identified the suspect, Ryan P. Sullivan, 30, of Agawam, and he was charged.

The officers recovered numerous stolen credit cards and debit cards from various victims along with loose change and money taken from cars.

Sullivan will be arraigned Wednesday in Springfield District Court.
