Deadly Crash Under Investigation in Southboro, Mass.

(NECN) - Traffic has been moving slowly in I-495 Southbound near Southboro, Mass. after a fatal crash that happened Friday afternoon.

A Toyota minivan carrying four people was hit when a front-end loader flipped off the back of a construction vehicle. A 60-year-old woman sitting in the back seat was killed in the crash.

The driver, a 42-year-old Westford woman, suffered serious injuries and was med-flighted to Umass Medical Center.

The children between the ages of 10 and 12 were taken to Umass medical with serious injuries.

The driver of the construction truck has been identified as Jeffrey Fisher, 49, of Coventry, RI. He is a construction worker for National Grid.

The crash is under investigation, and officials say criminal charges may be filed.

National Grid released the following statement regarding the crash:

"Our hearts go out to those affected by the accident on 495 in Westboro today. We take safety very seriously and are undertaking a full investigation internally as well as cooperating with the authorities.

We don't know what caused this accident but here is some early information:
A National Grid dump truck was being test driven at the time of the accident. This was a new model of truck which National Grid was continuing to evaluate in test drives following some safety considerations that had been identified by our employees. We don't have specific information as to how the accident occurred and don't know if this had any relation to the accident.

We will continue to cooperate with the authorities as we complete our investigation and again our sympathies are with the family during this difficult time."
