DiMasi Sentenced to Eight Years

(NECN: Alison King, Boston) - Former House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi was sentenced Friday to eight years in federal prison on charges of conspiracy, extortion and honest services fraud.

Once one of the most powerful figures in Massachusetts politics, DiMasi was found guilty in June for steering $17.5 million in state contracts to a software company in exchange for kickbacks.

A prominent Statehouse lobbyist, Richard McDonough, was also sentenced to seven years for his role.
