Federal Agency Investigating Fire That Claimed the Lives of 2 Boston Firefighters

(NECN) - A federal agency has launched an investigation into the Back Bay fire that claimed the lives of two firefighters last month.

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health confirmed that it will be investigating the March 26 blaze. Boston Fire Lt. Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy both died in the blaze.

The investigation will look into factors that contributed to the deaths of Walsh and Kennedy and provide findings and recommendations to prevent future tragedies. The agency will not examine issues related to legal requirements or regulatory requirements for fire departments, which are typically explored by other agencies.

The Suffolk District Attorney's Office had previously launched its own investigation into the fatal fire. For up-to-the-minute news and weather, be sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
