Former Mass. Rep Charged With Violating Restraining Order

(NECN) - A former Massachusetts police sergeant and former state representative was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday - after his arrest for allegedly violating a restraining order.

The Eagle Tribune reports that Jose Santiago was arrested on Saturday morning, after police spotted him in downtown Lawrence.

Santiago's ex-girlfriend filed the restraining order on Wednesday, and he allegedly violated that order just one day later.

It is unknown why the restraining order was filed.

Santiago was fired from the Methuen Police Department in 2004 for refusing to take a retraining course.

He was a state representative in the 1990s.
