Heartbreak Hill Proves Particular Challenge in Record Heat

(NECN: Alison King, Newton, Mass.) - It's a tough-enough portion of an already tough race under even ideal conditions.

It's Heartbreak Hill, the bane of many a marathon runner, made even more so by this year's record heat.

But emergency medical services reported far fewer casualties this year than in 2004, the last time temperatures were about this high.

Nevertheless, it was an emotionally exhausting scene as many participants walked, ran and nearly crawled get ready to finish the final five miles of the race.
