Homeowners Turning to Natural Gas to Save Thousands on Heating

(NECN: Steve Aveson) – As homeowners look for ways to save, some are turning toward natural gas.

Needham, Mass. homeowner Bruce Balder made the decision to convert their home from heating oil to natural gas.

Balder said, “We have more heat for less money than we ever could have imagined.”

The U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts the average household in the Northeast will spend $1,037 for natural gas this winter as opposed to $2,114 for heating oil.

NSTAR Spokesman Mike Durano said, “People who we talk to who are interested in natural gas want it yesterday and people who have converted are thrilled.

Conversions will run a household $3,500-$10,000, but most energy companies say it will offset the price of removing your oil tank and will run the gas line from the street to your house at no cost in most cases.
