Horizons for Homeless Children: Playspace Pals

(NECN: Latoyia Edwards) - On any given day, at 150 homeless shelters across the state, volunteers like Annessa Lewis are giving children the opportunity to just be kids.

Each Horizons for Homeless Children's Playspace is stocked with books, developmental toys and art supplies. Horizons started the program in 1990 with the belief that play is essential for every child's development. Weekly, more than 2,700 children visit Horizons' Playspaces statewide.

Annessa became a pal, a Playspace activity leader, after she saw an ad on the MBTA.

"At first I thought, oh two hours a week, that's a lot out of my schedule, but it fits in so well on my way home every Thursday and I actually come out of it more energized," says Annessa.

For as little as $15 a month, you can help Horizons for Homeless Children give a child the opportunity to learn, play and thrive. Call 800-650-6219 to make your donation.
