Is Toyota's Recall Turning Buyers Away?

(NECN: Greg Wayland, Braintree, Mass.) - Presidents Day is traditionally one of the biggest days for car dealerships. With many people flocking to lots looking for great deals, is Toyota's recall turning possible buyers away?

Toyota dealers around New England indicate that their sales are remaining steady, despite the bad publicity. Dealerships were working extra hard this weekend to get potential buyers in their showrooms.

This is a very bigweekend for us. A lot of incentives, a lot of specials.

But what was the moodinside those sunny Toyota showrooms when the brand's polished image cloudedover?

Greg Tufankjian/ Manager,Toyota Scion of Braintree: Initially we thought, gee, we couldn't believe itand then, one after the other.

Like bowling pins thoseToyota models went down to recall status and owners descended on dealers likeToyota Scion of Braintree to get those pedals fixed.

A couple of hundred. Noproblem, says service manager Jim Clinton:

We're flowing very wellnow. It's taken us about a week to learn it, you know to get our learning curvedown.
