Jared Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, and has been given the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
Remy, 35, says he fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, 27, at their Waltham, Massachusetts apartment last year.
Remy has also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man who tried to help Martel as he was stabbing her.
Remy was arrested August 13 after he allegedly pushed Martel into a mirror. He was released on his own recognizance August 14 and is accused of stabbing Martel the next day.
A neighbor told police he tried unsuccessfully to pull Remy off Martel during the attack.
"She had a knife in her hand. She was threatening me about my daughter," Remy told the judge.
