Joran Van Der Sloot Wanted for Murder of Woman in Peru

(NECN: Josh Brogadir) - Five years after the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, the prime suspect in that case is now wanted for murder in Peru.

An international arrest warrant has been issued for Joran van der Sloot, for the killing of a 21-year-old woman.

Fred Golba was on the phone with Dave Holloway, Natalee's father as we arrived at his home in Chicopee.

Holloway told him about the international manhunt for Joran van der Sloot, who both men think is responsible for Natalee's death.

Five years to the day Natalee Holloway went missing in Aruba, another international murder mystery is making headlines.

Stephany Flores, the 21 year old daughter of a Peruvian businessman was found dead in a bloody hotel room in Lima.

The connection: Joran van der Sloot, a suspect twice arrested but never charged in Natalee's disappearance is now the prime suspect in Stephany's death.

Peruvian authorities say van der Sloot, a 22 year old Dutch citizen, was in Lima for a poker tournament.

A hotel worker allegedly saw him and Flores go into his room, a few hours before Flores was found dead.

Van der Sloot has crossed the border by bus into Chile.

We asked investigator Fred Golba if he thinks it's a coincidence that this happened five years to the day.

"The guy is cocky," says Fred Golba. "He's cocky to the family, he's cocky to reporters."

Golba has made 10 trips down to Aruba searching for clues in the Holloway case.

The Chicopee, Massachusetts search and rescue specialist with Coast to Coast K-9 services was hired last year by Dave Holloway, Natalee's father.

The two have become friends.

"I even told Dave he'll do it again, you know and he has," says Golba. "And he didn't just do it again, he did it on the anniversary of Natalee."

If Joran van der Sloot is found guilty of killing Stephany Flores, Golba says it will bring some measure of solace to Natalee Holloway's father.

Golba says, "Now is his chance to get justice in a round about way for the guy who killed his daughter, and that's Joran."

More about the case in Peru, Van der Sloot was in Lima since May 14, then checked out of the hotel Sunday morning about an hour after Stephany Flores's body was found, leaving for Chile the next day.

Next for Golba with the Holloway case, a return to Aruba, perhaps later this year, to focus again on a pond where a size 14 shoe, reportedly Joran van der Sloot's shoe might be in the water.
