Jury Selection in Pregnancy Drug Lawsuit Begins

(NECN: John Moroney, Boston) - Jury selection took place in Boston Friday as part of a federal lawsuit brought by four sisters against a former maker of a pregnancy drug.

The sisters say their breast cancer was caused by diethylstilbestrol, or DES, the anti-miscarriage drug their mother took when she was pregnant back in the 1950s.

The drug was made by Eli Lilly and Co., which says it will vigorously defend itself against the allegations.

Drug companies argue there is no firm link between the drug DES and breast cancer.

The judge in the case hopes to have a jury in place by the end of Friday so testimony can begin next week.

John Moroney has more on the story.
