(NECN: Amy Sinclair) - A Westbrook, Maine man, who until Tuesday drove a school bus, appeared in Cumberland County District Court Wednesday on sex charges involving a minor.
Forty-seven-year-old Stephen Mitton is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and unlawful sexual touching, stemming from two incidents allegedly involving his 16-year-old neighbor.
According to the police report, Mitton repeatedly texted the teen asking for nude photos of herself and other children. The girl also told police that he slapped her on the buttocks after he gave her a ride to the store.
Police say they found photos of nude teens on Mitton's cell phone and Mitton confirmed that he had pornography on his home computer. It's unclear if any of those computer images include children.
Until 2011, Mitton was a school bus driver in Westbrook. Until Tuesday, when he resigned, Mitton was employed as a bus driver for the Scarborough school system.
His bail was set at $10,000 surety, or $5,000 cash.
As part of his bail conditions, Mitton was told not to have contact with the 16 year old, her mother, or anyone under the age of 18.
