(NECN) - On the markets today, stocks are down for the second straight session this time on a surprisingly steep drop in consumer confidence.

The Dow Jones industrial average plunges nearly 101 points to close at 10,282.

The Nasdaq composite drops more than 28 to finish at 2,213.

The S-and-P 500 falls 13 to end at more than 1,094.

Regionally -- Bloomberg's New England index slips more than two and a half points.
