(NECN: Lexington, Mass.) - 700 National Guard troops are filling sandbags and doing everything that they can amid the storm.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick went to Lexington this morning to hold a news conference and meet with the troops.
The rain continues to come down and will for most of today, particularly heavy on the South Coast. It will shift northeast throughout the course of the day.
All of the rivers in the Commonwealth are expected to be in various flood stages from moderate to major, because the grounds are saturated from this month's previous storms.
Residents are urged to use public transportation whenever possible. If you have to drive, take it slow and be very careful of standing water. Sinkholes and similar hazards are causing worry.

The following is a Tuesday morning summary of state roads closed or impacted by flooding:
Route 119 Littleton remains closed due to a failed culvert. MassDOT crews and contractors are working around the clock and coordinating with local emergency personnel to rebuild the culvert, left.
Wayland - Rte 20 WB at Rte 27 - Right turning lane closed only.
Canton - Ramp from 138 SB to 93 SB - Closed - Detour by making 3 loops of the four on leaf clover.
Taunton/Raynham - Rte 44 between South St Raynham and Long Meadow Rd Taunton is closed.
Middleboro - Rte 105 under Rte 495 closed.
There are reports of water over topping in Uxbridge on Old Millville Rd and along Route 111 in Boxboro.
Concord Turnpike in Concord closed at the junctions of Routes 2 and 2A.
Swansea - Rte 195 EB at exit 3 closed
Somerset - Rte 138 at Buffington St and Route 138 at Rte 6, closed Holbrook - Rte 37 closed at Stop & shop - traffic detoured through parking lot Dighton - Rte 138 by Muddy River closed Lakeville - Rte 18 both directions between Highland St and St. Mary's church, closed.
In addition, the Massachusetts Army National Guard are staged at the MassDOT Lexington Depot producing sandbags. 1,000 sandbags have been delivered to the MassDOT Tewksbury Depot. 2,000 sandbags have been delivered to the Millbury Depot, and 1,800 sandbags have been delivered to the Bridgewater Depot.
No serious injuries have been reported in the Bay State at this time.
