McLean: Both Sides Nailed Opening Statements in Bulger Trial

(NECN)  - The first witness of the prosecution's case against James ‘Whitey’ Bulger will be back on the witness stand today.

Wednesday, both sides presented their opening statements, and then former Massachusetts State Police Detective Bob Long took the stand.

He testified about surveillance photos and videos he took of Bulger back in 1980.

Bulger’s attorneys say three former associates slated to testify against the reputed mob boss are not credible.

Our Bulger insider, Attorney Margaret McLean has been in the courtroom through all of this.

She joined us live from Moakley Federal Courthouse with a look ahead at Thursday's testimony.

McLean said she believed both sides nailed it in opening statements and connected with the jury.

She said the prosecution’s strategy of calling first witness, Lt. Bob Long of the Massachusetts State Police was to “take us back to 1980” to show how long Bulger’s activity spanned.
