(NECN: Justin Michaels, Mansfield, Mass.) - A trip to Mexico has ended in tragedy for two Massachusetts women.
Family members say the women drowned near their resort in Cancun earlier this week.
Imagine going on vacation with some friends only to have those friends swept out to see by a strong current or rogue wave. That seems to be the reality, as foul play is not suspected in the deaths of two women, Donna Batta and Gail Binmore.
Binmore, of Mansfield, Mass., invited two friends to go with her to Cancun, Mexico to vacation in her time-share.
Late Tuesday night the three went walking on the beach.
Batta and Binmore went knee deep into the water. The third friend was with them, and that was the last time she saw the two women.
Before that third friend knew what happened, the rogue wave washed Batta and Binmmore out to sea in waters the vacation resort says were rough because of a cold front that had just gone through the area.

“It’s just an incredible tragic accident that no one could foresee… and… it’s just tough… it’s just tough,” says Binmore’s ex-husband, Joe Doherty.
Batta leaves behind a husband and three children between the ages of 16 and 24.
Binmore has two children, a son, Brent, and a daughter, Cassidy.
Both women’s bodies were found that night and will be flown back to Massachusetts.
