NH Town Official Accused of Kidnapping, Assaulting Woman

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan) - Jeffrey Gray, 48, is accused of luring a woman to the Windham, New Hampshire home, which he was renting.

Police say Gray met his 35-year-old alleged victim through an ad on Craigslist for a roommate in early March. She moved in and sometime after, and Gray allegedly began holding the woman captive and sexually assaulted her over the course of three days.

Gray was arrested in Brockton, Massachusetts, and in court he waived his right to fight rendition to New Hampshire.

Gray sits on the Salem Town Planning Board. The board president says gray was always professional. He may now lose his position on the board.

The alleged victim told police that Gray drove her to Logan Airport, hoping that she would get on a plane and leave the area. Police say they are not sure whether or not he had already purchased a ticket for her. Instead of getting on a plane, she jotted down some of Gray's license plate info and went to talk to Massachusetts State Police at Logan. They eventually notified authorities in New Hampshire.

Windham police say they are not aware of Gray being under the influence of alcohol or drugs from March 5 - 8, which is the time period that this was alleged to have happened. They also confirm that the 35-year-old woman was the one who posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a roommate. She was moving from New York and hoping for a "fresh start."

Police searched Gray's Windham home, but didn't issue an arrest warrant until March 15. After he was arrested by Brockton, Massachusetts police, he revoked his right to an attorney. Police couldn't give any details about who he was staying with.
