Police Pursuit in Mass. Ends With Head-on Crash

(NECN: John Moroney, Uxbridge, Mass.) - A vicious head-on crash occurring right before the start of rush hour between the two vehicles in Uxbridge, Mass., killing one of the drivers who was fleeing police at the time of the collision.

The accident happened on South Main Street in Uxbridge. But police in neighboring Northbridge started pursing the Ford Explorer after getting a complaint about an erratic driver. They checked the SUV's Rhode Island plates and discovered it was stolen.

Uxbridge police continued the pursuit when stolen SUV crossed into town, smashing into the Toyota pick up a short time later.

There was only one person in each of the vehicles. Authorities say it was not a high-speed chase with the stolen SUV traveling between 30 and 40 miles per hour when the crash happened on busy South Main Street.

Police have not identified the driver of the reportedly stolen vehicle. However, Worcester County DA's Office has identified the driver of the Toyota as Anthony Southwick, 30, of Uxbridge.
