Police Search for at Least 1 Suspect After Deadly Haverhill, Mass. Shooting

(NECN: Eileen Curran) - Police are searching for at least one suspect Tuesday afternoon in a deadly shooting that happened in Haverhill, Mass. Monday night.

“I heard bang bang bang,” said Pauline Cardarelli, “a little hesitation and then bang, one more.”

Pauline Cardarelli knew it wasn’t a car backfiring outside her home Monday night but rather gunshots being fired. She and other neighbors ran out and saw a horrific scene in front of them.

“There was a guy laying by the pole and they were doing CPR on him and then they took him away. And then there was another one laying there and he was moving but then they took him away,” said neighbor Michelle Goebel.

Four men were shot outside a multifamily home on River Street in Haverhill, Mass. Two were killed, including 19-year-old William Melchionda who lived in the home and 20-year-old Anndy Guzman of Lawrence.

Two others are hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbors say the home has a lot of young people coming and going and they believe there is drug activity there.

“It’s scary. I mean after everything else that has happened lately. It can happen anywhere,” said Goebel.

The district attorney is in charge of the investigation but isn't saying much right now.

Longtime neighbors know this is something they aren't used to here.

"We were never worried about gun shots before," said Cardarelli.
