Possible Explosive Device Shuts Down Newark Airport Terminal; Terminal Now Reopening

UPDATE: 8:30 a.m. - Terminal A is now reopened after a half-hour shutdown. WCBS Radio in New York reports that the device was a computer monitor that was apparently emitting a small amount of radiation, which is not abnormal.

The bomb squad has given the all-clear and the terminal is now open.

      NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Terminal A at New Jersey's Newark Liberty
International Airport is closed while police investigate a
suspicious package.

      American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith tells The Associated Press
he's been told the package was found at a security checkpoint.

      The terminal is where American Airlines' flights are based at
Newark.

      TV footage shows a large number of emergency vehicles outside
the terminal.
