Report: Government Approves Toyota Fix

(NECN: Detroit, Mich.) - Toyota plans to begin issuing parts to dealers next week as part of the fix of a stick accelerator pedal problem that led to the recall of 4.2 million vehicles over three continents.

The automaker told dealers about the plan Saturday after hearing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it did not object to the fix, the dealers said.

A Department of Transportation official, who requested anonymity because the announcement had not been made, confirmed that the government had no objections.

A Toyota spokesperson said the company received feedback from the government, but would not specify any details.

Dealers were to be informed Monday of the details of the fix, two dealers said.Toyota did not need NHTSA's approval to go ahead with the fix, but it submitted the plan to the agency on Thursday. Pressing on without approval would be unlikely.
