Review: Red Stone Grill

(TV Diner) - Fairly new to the dining scene in North Attleboro, Mass., the Red Stone Grill is a laidback spot with an inviting bar, two dining rooms and a landscape of booths and high top pub tables. We heard the kitchen dishes out classy comfort food at comfortable prices, so off we went to give it the taste test.

A pear and walnut salad was an interesting mix of arugula, caramelized pear, crisp bacon, pickled red onion, candied walnuts and blue cheese held together by sherry shallot vinaigrette - all in all a winner.

But a margherita pizza was shy on tomato and basil and overloaded with cheese. It's not often we take points off for abundance, but this was a case of too much of a good thing.

We then tucked into a Roquefort club steak. The thick cut of tender beef topped by Roquefort butter and fried onion strings was a contender for one of the best steaks we have ever enjoyed. And the mashed potatoes and asparagus at its side were fantastic, too.

On to the baked haddock with seasoned bread crumbs, resting in white wine and garlic butter sauce. Scrumptious and totally satisfying. The same goes for the green beans and basmati rice rounding out the dish.

The dessert menu arrived and we couldn't refuse an ice cream puff so large it barely fit the plate. The light pastry filled with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped by whipped cream was sweet delight.

A roasted pear didn't fare so well. The sliced fruit was too firm and tasteless. But there were no complaints about its pairing with a huge scoop of premium ice cream and vanilla wafers.

Service was ideal - our server was congenial, the meal well-paced and having the owner stop by our table was a nice touch.

Value is exceptional at Red Stone Grill with appetizers, soups and salads $3 to $9; sandwiches, burgers and pizzas averaging $8, entrees $12 to $23, $6 for desserts and three bucks for mini sweets.

For its pleasing fare, solid service and relaxed atmosphere, Red Stone Grill will get a Gold Plate.
