Weather Week: Teen Builds Homemade Tornado Machine

Sean Ernst definitely has a love for weather. He is a television meteorology camp alumni, a graduating high school senior and is just returning from the National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Testbed in Norman, Oklahoma.

He said, “I’ve been absolutely obsessed by thunderstorms and snow storms and all sorts of weather since I was 4-year-old.

Ernst has built his own tornado machine, which sucks in air and blows it in a circular motion. He built his first one when he was 14. Now 18, he is on his third version.
