Wednesday's Near-Record-Breaking Warm-Up

Under mostly sunny skies, today is expected to reach into the lower 80s into southern New England

Take advantage of the gorgeous, summer-like day ahead, as a cool-down returns to round out the week, bringing us back to the reality of a New England fall. Under mostly sunny skies, today is expected to reach into the lower 80s into southern New England, including Boston, as winds will be moving in from the southwest. You may have noticed how mild and muggy it was when you made your way out the door this morning, and that certainly will help reach near-record or record-breaking high temperatures by the afternoon.

As of 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, temperatures were already nearly 10-20° warmer than Tuesday morning at the same time. By the afternoon, temperatures are expected to be running at least 15-20° above average for this time of year. We typically see an 80° degree high mid-August in the Boston-area, and for mid-October, the normal high is 60°.

However, that does not mean that we’ve never dealt with the 80° heat in mid-October before. Here’s a look at the record’s that could be at risk for today:

Plus, the latest we’ve seen a high temperature of 80° is November 2nd, meanwhile, the latest we’ve seen 75° is December 7. As far as our forecast for the rest of the work week and into the weekend, temperatures drop to more seasonable conditions, so unfortunately, the warmth is short-lived which is all the more reason to enjoy the rest of your Wednesday outdoors, soaking up one of the last days near 80° before next spring.
