Boston Playground Dedicated to Fallen Firefighters

Former Billings Field playground in West Roxbury was renamed 'Lt. Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy Tot Lot'

A Boston playground has been renamed in honor of two fallen firefighters.

The former Billings Field playground in the city's West Roxbury neighborhood officially reopened on Saturday after a $500,000 renovation project.

The park will now be known as the Lt. Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy Tot Lot.

Walsh and Kennedy were killed while battling a 9-alarm blaze in the Back Bay in March.

The playground will include two fire truck panels with the Boston Fire Department logo and the names of Walsh and Kennedy's unit, Engine 33 and Ladder 15. Young children will also be able to play with fire engine steering wheels and ring a fire bell.

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, no relation to Lt. Walsh, was among those who attended Saturday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.
