The life of boxing champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler is being celebrated in his hometown of Brockton this weekend.
Hagler died in March at the age of 66, and the celebration Sunday would have been his 67th birthday, The Enterprise reported.
"Marvelous Marvin Hagler has been an inspiration and a source of civic pride for Brockton for generations,'' Mayor Robert Sullivan said in a statement. "He is one of the primary reasons why we are known as the `City of Champions.' This public memorial will be a fitting tribute to one of our city's favorite sons and one of boxing's all-time greats.''
The event, scheduled to take place at Marciano Stadium, will feature several celebrity guests and speakers, including boxing champion Bernard Hopkins, ESPN host Stephen A. Smith, boxing analyst Al Bernstein, boxing writer and historian Ron Borges and members of the Hagler family.

Sullivan said Thursday that boxing champions Vinny Pazienza and Mickey Ward are also expected to attend. Attendance is limited to about 3,000 people because of COVID-19 safety protocols.

Hagler was born in Newark, New Jersey, and moved with his family to Brockton in the late 1960s.
He was 62-3-2 with 52 knockouts in his career and the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987.
