Police: 11-Year-Old Boy Attacked, Injured by Pit Bull

An 11-year-old boy who was mauled by a pit bull in Connecticut is expected to survive.

New Haven police say the child was playing in the driveway of a home when he was attacked on Friday morning. The dog was loose. It's unclear who the owner is.

Police say a passerby was able to intervene and separate the dog from the victim. The dog is in the custody of animal control.

The boy suffered facial injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening. He was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Police say the dog's owner will likely face charges.
