Fire officials say a woman is in serious condition and 13 families have been displaced after an apartment building caught fire in Hartford, Connecticut.
Fire Capt. Helene Lynch says firefighters found flames coming from the side of the building and pulled a 22-year-old woman from her burning apartment. Lynch says the woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and is being treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue another woman from the building. She was treated at the scene.
The fire was put out within minutes of firefighters arriving.
The cause and origin of the blaze are being investigated.
The displaced families were being assisted by the fire department's special services unit, the American Red Cross and the city's Health and Human Services Department.
