Cool and Dreary Weather Kicks off the Week

A series of low pressure systems south of New England will bring cool and rainy conditions to the region for the first half of the week.

A warm front tries to nose into the area today, pushing surges of rain ahead of it. A rumble of thunder may accompany some heavier showers.

We’re expecting showers to decrease in coverage late morning through the rest of the day. Highs today will reach into the uppers 50s to low 60s. Rain moves back in tonight as a new area of low pressure develops east of long island.

Lows won’t drop off much, remaining in the 50s. On Tuesday, low pressure moves south of Nova Scotia as an upper level low hangs tough overhead, yielding continued rain and cool temperatures across New England.

Highs tomorrow remain in the low 50s for most locations and will flirt with lowest high records. Boston’s lowest high record is 52 degrees, set back in 1926 and in Worcester, the record stands at 51, set in 2000. Climatological norms for this time of the year show maximum temperatures in the low 70s.

High pressure noses into the region by Wednesday, resulting in improving conditions as the system ushers in drier air.

Expect partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s north and low to mid 60s south. Mostly sunny skies move in for Thursday with highs moderating into the upper 60s south to near 70 degrees north. A building southwest flow builds into the region on Friday as we become sandwiched between a high pressure to our west and an area of low pressure to our east.

We’re expecting the high pressure to have a greater influence, yielding mostly dry weather across New England. Highs crest into the 70s. Looking ahead to next weekend, some showers will be around on Saturday as a cold front dives south towards the region out of Quebec.

Otherwise partly sunny skies prevail with highs reaching well into the 70s. On Sunday, sunny skies continue with highs remaining in the mid-70s north to near 80 degrees south. More details are on the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-Day Forecast on NBC Boston and necn.
