Red Sox to Return Home in a 2-0 Hole

The Red Sox were held scoreless as the Indians took a 2-0 lead in the ALDS Friday afternoon.

In a battle of aces, Cleveland got to David Price early and trounced Boston 6-0. Three and a third innings in, manager John Farrell lifted Price, who had allowed six hits, two walks and three runs while striking out three. Reliever Matt Barnes proceded to allow another unearned run.

Corey Kluber, meanwhile, went seven innings for the Tribe, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Those six baserunners were the only Boston was able to muster through the entire game. Kluber's dominant performance was followed by one perfect inning apiece from Dan Otero and Bryan Shaw.

Price has long been criticized for performing poorly in the postseason. It's worth noting, though, that his sample size climbed to just 66.2 IP after Friday.

The Red Sox will return home facing elimination Sunday. They will put their faith in Clay Buchholz, who was sent to the bullpen after his first 10 starts this season, but who was somewhat more effective later in the year. Cleveland, will counter with Josh Tomlin, who had similarly poor results early on but pitched to a 1.40 ERA in September following injuries to fellow starters Danny Salazar and Carlos Carrasco.
