Empty, Adrift Boat Reported in Stellwagen Bank Off the Coast of Massachusetts

The U.S. Coast Guard said crews were responding to the unmanned and adrift vessel

The U.S. Coast Guard responding Saturday to Stellwagen Bank off the coast of Massachusetts after an unmanned and adrift boat was reported there.

The boat in question is approximately 20-25 feet in length, the Coast Guard said. Just before 7 p.m., the agency said it had sent its own boats and helicopters to investigate.

The Coast Guard told NBC10 Boston that this was a runaway boat and there was no one on it, according to a report from someone who was in the water around 3:30 p.m.

The boat had not been located as of 10 p.m. Saturday, and search efforts for the vessel were continuing.

Stellwagen Bank is located at the mouth of Massachusetts Bay, between Cape Ann and Cape Cod.
