After a cloudy start to Independence Day, we are seeing sunshine in many locations. The last place to clear out today will be Cape Cod and Islands where clouds hang tight for most of the day. Highs will be in the 80s inland while 70s along the coast due to an onshore flow. Tonight, patchy fog redevelops with a southerly wind that will keep temperatures in the 60s.
Sunday will be the warmest day of the holiday weekend under a mostly sunny sky much of the day. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. There is a slight chance for a pop-up shower or a thunderstorm during the early afternoon around southeastern Massachusetts so make sure to keep an eye to the sky if you are planning on heading to the beach from Hull into Cape Cod. Another line of showers and storms moves into the area late Sunday, which some could be strong to severe with the primary threat being damaging wind and lightning.
Monday will be mainly quiet with temperatures in the 70s near the coast but by mid-week, summer heat returns with temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s until Friday. With a very humid air mass in place it’s possible that we could see additional showers and thunderstorms almost any day at any time. Don’t cancel your beach or outdoors plans because we are not forecasting a washout. Any showers and thunderstorms that do develop will likely pass through relatively quickly.
