Man Dead in Lynn Music Video Shooting Mourned as Police Hunt for Gunman

A candlelight vigil Sunday evening paid tribute to a victim of a shooting in Lynn the evening before, while authorities continue to search for the person who pulled the trigger.

The victim, 31-year-old Gustavo Santana, was out filming a music video on Washington Street around 5:30 p.m., his family says. Then the taping turned violent as someone opened fire, according to police.

"Why? It's the only question I have," said LeSean Tate, a friend of Santana.

On Sunday evening, members of the community gathered to honor the life of Santana, a father of two children and a man who loved to help those around him, his family said.

"I think I'm still dreaming. I'm just waiting to wake up," Tate said.

According to his cousin, Santana was a local activist and also loved working with underprivileged youth.

But as of Sunday night, family and friends are still waiting for answers as police search for the gunman.

Five people were hurt, including two with life-threatening injuries, in a shooting that has killed one victim.

The Essex District Attorney’s Office said Lynn police responded to the area od Quincy Terrace Saturday evening after receiving numerous reports of gunshot being fired.

"I was in the house. I heard it. I ran outside and there was my boyfriend on the ground," said Kristen Lyons, Santana's girlfriend, who found him. The pair had just exchanged Christmas presents, she said.

In all, six people were shot Saturday night, five of whom were hospitalized. Two had life-threatening injuries Sunday, police said.

Four of the victims were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, at least two oh whom hat life-threatening injuries. Two others were taken to Salem Hospital. Santana was pronounced dead later that evening.

One man said his wife had witnessed the chaotic scene.

One person has died from their injuries suffered in a shooting overnight in Lynn, Massachusetts.

“She looked out the window, she heard several what she thought were firecrackers,” Ryan Tarasuik said. “People yelling, screaming, some type of street fight or some type of argument going on. Next thing she knows she looked out the window and police are showing up quickly.”

While police continue to search for the shooter, they say there is no immediate threat to the public.
